How San Diego’s stormwater management strategy protects coastal waters

San Diego, Calif. is a city with scenic coastlines along the Pacific Ocean, a world-class zoo, a long association with the US Navy, a growing population and economy, and a lively tourism industry. Managing stormwater in this beautiful city involves dealing with a myriad of challenges, including outdated infrastructure, the city’s topography and soil, and a semi-arid climate.

One of the city’s leaders in water conservation and stormwater management is the San Diego International Airport. With help from Haley & Aldrich, the airport developed and implemented a Water Stewardship Plan to focus on water quality, water usage, and flood resilience.
