Haley & Aldrich announces Liz Fennessy and Mike Atwood as Market Segment Leaders

Boston, MA (April 2, 2014) – Environmental and engineering company, Haley & Aldrich, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lizetta Fennessy and Michael Atwood as Market Segment Leaders. In their new roles, Fennessy and Atwood are responsible for responding to the unique challenges occurring in their respective markets, building client and strategic teaming relationships as well as discovering creative ways to work with clients to address challenges and manage risk in the built environment.

“Both Liz and Mike have many years of service with Haley & Aldrich and have significant experience working closely with our clients. Now, as Market Segment Leaders, this experience can enhance the level of service we provide to clients,” said Joel Mooney, P.E., LSP, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Haley & Aldrich’s Real Estate Business Unit. “As our clients face new challenges, their leadership will help us to continue to respond to these challenges.”

Lizetta Fennessy, Vice President, Market Segment Leader – Institutions
As Market Segment Leader for Institutions, Fennessy will oversee the company's education and healthcare practices. Her responsibilities will include advancing the overall growth strategy for these markets, including identifying new business opportunities, developing needed staff competencies, assessing business risks, and generating opportunities to increase market presence and visibility. Fennessy has 20 years of experience working on various types of real estate projects. She has a background in geotechnical engineering, combined with diverse experience in business development, project management, strategic planning, and real estate development. Prior to her new role, she served as Business Development Leader for the company's Real Estate Business Unit and was responsible for building relationships with clients and strategic business partners. She holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Michael Atwood, P.E., Vice President, Market Segment Leader - Developers
In his new role as Market Segment Leader for Developers, Atwood will be responsible for continuing to build on the company's extensive experience working with developers as they face design and construction challenges. Atwood has been with the company for over 25 years, and has led a wide range of geotechnical engineering and environmental projects. Atwood’s experience includes serving as Project Executive and Senior Project Manager for a number of projects in the Boston area – both in new construction and in the rehabilitation of existing structures. Atwood will utilize this past experience to help oversee the services and solutions Haley & Aldrich provides for developer clients. He is a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and holds both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.

In addition, Mark Balfe, P.E., will be assuming Fennessy’s role as Business Development Leader. Balfe has 14 years of experience with Haley & Aldrich. As a Senior Project Manager, Balfe has delivered a wide variety of projects dealing with geotechnical and environmental aspects of design and construction. His responsibilities have broadly included the design and construction administration for projects involving underground spaces, and major buildings. In his new role, Balfe will work hand-in-hand with Fennessy and Atwood to look for opportunities for growth, and to form strategic partnerships with clients and business partners.

The Institutions and Developers market segment leader roles were previously held by Melissa McEwen and Marya Gorczyca respectively. Gorczyca will continue to work with key clients at a Principal consultant and Senior Vice President in the active Boston development market, and will also support growth in the San Francisco Bay Area. McEwen will shift her focus to Haley & Aldrich’s Lean Consulting Services group and will help lead the growth of the company's expanding Lean Consulting Practice in areas including Facilities Management and Organizational Performance, Environmental Portfolio Management, and Design and Construction.

“As our company continues to grow to reflect the changing needs of our industry and clients, we are excited to see new and different opportunities arise for our staff,” said Mooney. “The Market Segment Leader role is instrumental to meeting the specific needs of our clients, and I am confident in Liz and Mike’s ability to lead this charge.”
