ARPA 2018 Convention

Eric Mears, Mining Market Segment Leader at Haley & Aldrich, will be presenting at the ARPA 2018 Convention in Laguna Beach, California. Eric’s presentation, “Six years after the Aggregate Protection Act, do aggregates still need protection?,” will take place on Thursday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Visit the ARPA website for more information on the organization and read below for additional details about Eric’s presentation.

In 2011, the Arizona legislature passed the Aggregate Protection Act (APA) which became law in 2012. The APA’s simple mission was to assist Arizona counties and municipalities in identifying and protecting valuable aggregate resources in their communities in order to ensure the availability of these important resources by reducing conflicting land uses. These efforts are to be documented in the General Plans already required and frequently amended by the entities. Since enactment, numerous county and municipal planning departments have amended their General Plans. Eric Mears’ presentation will focus on how to be in compliance with the APA and highlight some surprising findings regarding the efforts of over 35 counties and municipalities to ensure the long-term availability of high-quality construction materials.
