Recent Assignments

Based in Southern California, Ioana’s projects are both local and international in scope. In San Diego, Ioana is applying forensic fingerprinting to distinguish natural from man-made sources of perchlorate contamination in several water wells. She is also providing technical expertise in the investigation of the source of hydrocarbons in soils at a former industrial site in Lyon, France.

Ioana has managed and conducted innovative research for the U. S. Department of Energy and European Community on environmental characterization, risk assessment, and development of innovative remedial technologies for an assortment of contaminants in soil and water.

Ioana received her Ph.D. in Biology - Environmental Biotechnology from the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy of Sciences and a B.S. in Chemistry - Technological Biochemistry from Bucharest University. Ioana is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Forensics Journal, a member of a team that holds a patent for a biosynthesis procedure, and has published over 60 research papers.
