On January 19, 2017 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published updated toxicity values for benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) in its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) database. The toxicity values published in the IRIS database are used by EPA and many other state regulatory agencies as the basis for evaluating health risks, establishing risk-based screening levels, and setting risk-based cleanup standards. The updated toxicity values published by EPA will result in higher risk-based screening values than those that are presently in use for B(a)P.
