Burlington, Mass., November 19, 2018 – Haley & Aldrich, an engineering and environmental consulting company, announced today that Paul Manasjan, Technical Expert, has received Airports Going Green’s (AGG) 2018 Pioneer in Aviation Sustainability Award. Each year, the AGG conference recognizes and celebrates trailblazers in sustainability within the aviation industry with their Sustainability Awards.
“Paul is a mentor and has a lifelong legacy that has elevated our entire industry with his contagious passion for sustainability and steadfast character,” said Kris Russell, Environmental Program Manager at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). DFW and the Chicago Department of Aviation partnered together to create the Pioneer in Aviation Sustainability Award.
With over 30 years of public sector experience working in the fields of environmental compliance, resource management, and sustainability, Manasjan is an internationally recognized leader and pioneer in airport environmental sustainability. He recently retired from his post as Director of Environmental Affairs for San Diego International Airport where he managed their sustainability programs and initiatives, including air and water quality, Brownfield redevelopment, waste reduction and recycling, wildlife preservation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies, climate resilience, and sustainability tracking and reporting. In 2008, under Manasjan’s guidance, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority adopted one of the first sustainability policies for a major airport in the U.S., spearheading the Airport Authority’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable future for the airport and the region.
Manasjan was Chair of Airport Council International-North America’s (ACI-NA) Sustainability Working Group where he facilitated best practices on sustainability initiatives and bolstered the group by championing an effort to bring awareness to the importance of sustainability. He is also a founder of The Good Traveler, a program that lets travelers invest their money in projects that are certified to offset the impact of air or road travel by keeping greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, while also supporting initiatives such as restoring wetlands or growing forests.
“Paul’s work with the Airport Authority, ACI-NA, and Haley & Aldrich’s clients has helped elevate the importance and relevancy of sustainability in the aviation industry as a whole,” said Ben Chandler, Chief Innovation Officer at Haley & Aldrich. “As a leader and innovator in his field he is highly respected by his clients and peers alike. We are proud to see AGG’s recognition of Paul’s significant contributions.”
The award was presented to Manasjan on November 6, 2018 by Aaron Frame, the Deputy Commissioner of Environment of the Chicago Department of Aviation, at the 11th Annual Airports Going Green Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
