Min-Ying Jacob Chu, Ph.D., P.E.

Senior Technical Expert, Environmental Engineering

Jacob enjoys using his quantitative skills to create robust, cost-effective solutions that ensure project success for his clients. He understands that environmental restoration often needs to cope with great uncertainties due to the complex hydrogeology and biogeochemistry involved in contaminant fate and transport. By identifying the sources of uncertainties, Jacob can quantitatively evaluate how they will affect proposed remedial approaches and ensure successful remediation.

During his more than 20 years of environmental engineering experience, Jacob has conducted innovative remediation designs/assessments and water management evaluations to help achieve environmental restoration as well as energy and water conservation. He has also served as Principal Investigator on two field demonstration projects awarded by the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and the Department of Defense to test an innovative bioremediation approach for treating dilute plumes of 1,4-dioxane and chlorinated solvents.

  • Checkmark Bioremediation of dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) and dilute plumes
  • Checkmark Coal combustion residuals (CCR)
  • Checkmark Emerging contaminants
  • Checkmark Environmental microbiology and biogeochemistry
  • Checkmark Fate and transport modeling
  • Checkmark Ground source heat exchange modeling
  • Checkmark Hydrogeology
  • Checkmark Monitored natural attenuation (MNA)

“I believe science and engineering can help us achieve a balance between the well-being of human society and the environment. Working in the environmental consulting industry allows me to use my expertise to create practical, yet innovative solutions to address legacy environmental pollution and promote the conservation of energy and water resources for our society’s sustainable development.”
