Client challenge
An industrial client has trusted Haley & Aldrich as its stormwater management partner since the issuance of California’s Industrial Stormwater General Permit in 2015. We have prepared and updated the stormwater pollution prevention plan for the company’s facility and completed the regular monitoring, sampling, and documentation required to comply with the general permit.
Our work took on a special urgency when we helped the client and its counsel address a notice to sue for allegedly violating the Clean Water Act by discharging stormwater containing certain metals to the receiving water. Haley & Aldrich assisted legal counsel with negotiating a settlement with the plaintiffs.
Our approach
Relying on our extensive site and compliance knowledge to successfully negotiate the terms, the client entered a consent decree. Under one of the conditions, the company installed a stormwater treatment system. We provided turnkey system design — the first of its kind locally — as well as installation, operation, and maintenance. We also conducted the necessary permitting, retained a vendor to fabricate the system, and hired a subcontractor to install it.
