Haley & Aldrich’s PFAS destruction technology EradiFluor earned a highlight in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
Amy McDermott, an associate editor at PNAS, describes the technology in her April 2026 article “How to destroy ‘forever chemicals’ for good,” which summarizes the treatment methods researchers are exploring to destroy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. This group of thousands of chemicals, known as PFAS, is widespread in the environment and notoriously difficult to eradicate. Amy mentions EradiFluor as an example of “one of the most promising approaches”: UV light destruction.
Amy notes that Haley & Aldrich has already gotten results using EradiFluor in the real world. “Initial field tests showed that EradiFluor destroyed more than 99% of PFAS in the concentrated wastes,” she writes. “The team is now working on a much larger UV setup to treat 100 gallons per day; the wastewater would be clean enough for industrial reuse, or disposal off-site.”
Haley & Aldrich’s Yida Fang, Raul Tenorio, and John Xiong, who guided the development of EradiFluor, provided information on the technology for the article.
