SERDP & ESTCP Corner—Headlines from the Environmental Restoration Program Area

Contaminated groundwater

Sarah Mass, Environmental Engineer at Haley & Aldrich, has published her first column of 2022 for Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation. The quarterly column, SERDP & ESTCP Corner—Headlines from the Environmental Restoration Program Area, provides groundwater professionals with research updates from the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and Environmental Security Technology Certification Program’s (ESTCP) Environmental Restoration Program Area. Read more in our news release.

This issue’s column notes that the “largest liability” of the Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP) is contaminated groundwater. Sarah then recaps the SERDP and ESTCP Symposium, which took place in late 2021 and highlighted the programs’ 30 years of groundwater research, as well as providing PFAS fate, transport, and assessment updates. The column also reviews a recent webinar by Dr. Chris Higgins and Dr. David Sedlak entitled “Forensic techniques for differentiating PFAS sources.”
