Haley & Aldrich hires Blane Dale and Kevin Houck to bolster mine closure and reclamation capabilities

Burlington, Mass., April 5, 2021 – Haley & Aldrich announced today that Kevin Houck, P.E., PMP, and Blane Dale, P.E., have joined the firm as Technical Expert and Project Manager, respectively. The two strategic hires expand the firm’s mining capabilities in Montana and bolster the firm’s expertise in mine closure and reclamation.

“Kevin and Blane will complement our existing mining expertise in the Northwest United States and be able to collaborate with staff in our Idaho, Nevada, Washington, and Oregon offices to deliver more robust reclamation, Abandoned Mined Lands (AML) program management, CERCLA investigations, and permitting services,” said Eric Mears, Mining Market Segment Leader for Haley & Aldrich. “Kevin and Blane are recognized leaders in AML remediation as well as analog reclamation, which will allow our mining clients to achieve more efficient reclamation solutions that mimic natural landscapes and prevent future reclamation failures.”

Houck-Kevin

Kevin Houck, P.E., PMP, brings over 19 years of experience leading mine site reclamation, waste site closure, and river and stream restoration projects. He has overseen site inspections and characterization of mine wastes, engineering evaluations/cost analysis, and removal designs. Houck enjoys working on projects where he proactively collaborates with clients and stakeholders to develop innovative, highly functional, and resilient solutions. He creates and executes unique technical approaches to problem‑solving, specifically as it relates to preparing design-phase documents, negotiating project permits, and implementing remedial and reclamation design. His construction background and field work experience help him overcome constructability issues and implement value engineering during project design. Houck has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Seattle University. He holds Professional Engineer licenses in Washington, Montana, and Wyoming and is a certified Project Management Professional.

Blane Dale, P.E., has 17 years of experience in environmental consulting and engineering design for treating heavy metal and hydrocarbon impacted soils and water, mine site investigations, and groundwater and soil sampling. He enjoys collaborating with internal and external teams to solve his clients’ most complex problems through thoughtful engineering design. He is a certified Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) pilot and routinely conducts aerial surveys to collect critical data for clients more effectively. Dale has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Montana State University and holds Professional Engineer licenses in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming.
